Memorial Garden: Nishkam High School

We’re delighted to have worked with Nishkam High School to design and develop a beautiful memorial garden for the commemoration of their headmaster and a student who sadly lost their lives.

This was done to provide a sanctuary for all staff and pupils to sit in and act as a safe space for them. We initially designed the garden, detailing the layout as well as the plants and special touches such as plaques around the tree and using Brunnera Macrophylla plants which are shaped like hearts, the symbol of love.

This ornamental garden is a tranquil area for well-being and educational purposes, mixing both pretty and practical features. That said, we also planted vegetable herbs and fruit trees for the food technology department to be able to use. We gave their food technician a tour of the garden to make them aware of the diversity of herbs and fruits that is grown and can be used within their classes. This was a very thought-out design exercise, to ensure that the combination of all these additions worked in the garden and was positioned in their prime spot for natural and healthy growth.

From the design to the landscaping, we were able to bring the garden to life with the help of our sister company MDK Garden Services.

It has been a pleasure working with the team and contributing to the well-being of the school. The final results have been well received and we look forward to our continued relationship with the school as we undergo regular maintenance for the garden.

Testimonial

We wanted to create a memorial garden which would be a place of reflection but also a place which would enhance our curriculum. I presented Martina with a vision and blank canvas.

Her work captured everything we wanted. The team were professional when building the garden and Martina project managed the efficiently and ahead of schedule.

The garden has had an enormous, positive impact at our school. By getting our students out of their seats and into an engaging environment, our students have benefited from being able to use all their senses in order to make connections and lasting learning experiences. It is also a space students and staff can use as an escape and place of reflection.
